Questions
What readers ask before they hand a document to a new tool.
Straight answers about files, page references, the free allowance and the monthly plan.
What file types are supported
Which files can I open?
PDF. A PDF exported from a word processor, a LaTeX build, a published standard or a report all read fine, as do long papers and contracts.
Can it read a scan?
A scan is a picture of a page, with no words inside it to read. If searching your PDF for a word finds nothing, Docwise cannot read it either — export a text version and the same file will read straight away.
How long can the file be?
Every plan has a page and a size limit per file. The pricing page reads the exact figures that apply to you right now, so you are never guessing at a number.
Does the file leave my machine?
The PDF is opened in your browser and its pages are read here. The text of the pages that bear on your question is what Docwise reads to write the answer; the file itself is not uploaded and kept.
How citations work
Where does the page number come from?
It is taken from the pages the answer was written from and printed under the answer. Every answer shows at least one page.
What if a point covers several pages?
You see each one. One page reads “Page 7”; several read “Pages 3 and 7”, with the passage from each page underneath.
Can an answer come back with no page at all?
Not one you will be shown. An answer that names no page is withheld rather than displayed, and you are asked to put the question again in the document’s own words — the next answer comes back with its page under it.
Can I keep the answer?
Copy it, and the question, the answer and the pages it was drawn from travel together into your notes.
Free allowance questions
What do I get free?
A set number of documents and questions every day, renewed each day, with no payment and no account. The pricing page shows how many are left to you at this moment.
Do I need an account?
No. The free allowance works without signing in.
What happens when the day runs out?
It comes back the next day. A document you have already opened stays on the page, together with the answers you have read and the pages they came from.
Is the free version a cut-down version?
No. It is the same job on the same pages: a PDF in, a question in plain language, an answer with the page it came from underneath it.
Billing questions
Is the paid plan monthly?
Yes. It renews each month until you cancel it.
What happens to what I have already read?
Nothing is taken away. Opening a document and reading an answer with its page reference do not depend on the plan continuing.
What does the paid plan actually change?
The daily ceiling on documents and questions comes off, and each file may be longer and larger. The answers themselves, and the page reference under each one, are the same on both plans.
Can I ask about the plan before I choose?
Send a message from the contact page and the person who runs Docwise answers it.
